Markup UK 2020

A conference about XML and other markup technologies

Markup UK Webinars in June

Thank You!

Sadly, June and our webinar sessions are now both over. Huge thanks must go to our presenters, Achim Berndzen, David Maus, Liam Quin, Adam Retter, and Erik Siegel, but also to everyone who attended.

XProc Q&A

Achim Berndzen and Erik Siegel answer your XProc questions in XProc Q&A, now available online.

XQuery is the Plumber's Toolkit!

Register now, if you haven't already! Adam Retter will demonstrate how to aggregate Document, Graph, and Relational data using XQuery to produce new information.

Adam Retter to Present on 25 June

Adam Retter, the developer of Fusion DB, one of the lead developers of eXist-DB, the man behind RESTXQ, and an acknowledged expert on XQuery has graciously accepted to present for us. Exact topic yet to be determined, but we think it should be about XQuery and XML databases in some shape or form, and would like your input. Email your ideas to us at info@markupuk.org.

Preliminary Webinar Schedule Published

We're offering (at least) eight webinars in June, all completely free of charge. The webinars will all start at 4 PM BST and will be between 30 and 45 minutes in length.

Registration will open very shortly.

The next physical Markup UK conference is still more than a year away but we'll be offering a series of webinars in June.

With half the globe in lockdown or just out of it, a physical conference is still not an option. There's nothing stopping a webinar, however, so we'll be offering a series of them throughout June. The exact dates and times are yet to be determined but watch this space fore more info very soon!

While you'll have to register, the webinars will be completely free of charge.

News

2020 Conference Cancelled

Due to the extraordinary circumstances, we've had no option but to cancel this year's conference.

Unfortunately, the ever-increasing risks associated with the widespread coronavirus have led us to a decision that, although appropriate under these unique circumstances, undoubtedly will be disappointing to many. This year's conference has been cancelled and we'll be working towards returning in 2021.

Those of you who already registered will, of course, be refunded in full.

Thank you for your interest and support, and please stay safe.

Regarding the Covid-19 Crisis

We're currently looking into what the current crisis will mean for this year's Markup UK conference and will publish more shortly. Stay tuned.

Power to the People!

This year's theme is Power to the People. It's all about enabling users and make sure markup serves them rather than the other way around. Do you have a story to tell? Tell us!

Preconference Slots Available

If you have an idea for a preconference tutorial, workshop, or meeting, head over to the Speakers page for more information.

Markup UK Student Discount

We've reserved a limited number of student seats, available for £99 excl VAT. Use the discount code MUK2020STUDENT when registering to claim yours. Please note that we will require proof of your student status at the registration desk.

Early-bird Registration Now Open

Up for three days of markup goodness in London in June? Early-bird registration is now open!

If you're at XML Prague, make sure to grab one of our business cards at the registration desk. Not only will it remind you of the Markup UK dates to mark in your calendar for June, there's also a discount code for XML Prague attendees only!

CFP Now Open

The Call for Papers is now open! If you have a topic you wish to present in London in June, let us hear about it!

CFP and Early-bird to Open

We'll be opening the Call for Papers and the early-bird registration during XML Prague next week. For those of you attending, there will be an XML Prague discount, too. Stay tuned.

XML Prague Is Soon Upon Us

XML Prague, our sister conference, is happening on 13–15 February and is thus less than a month away. While booking your flights and looking forward to this year's presentations, you should also start thinking about your markup stories for Markup UK 2020, as we'll be opening the Call for Papers during XML Prague. Or, if you are more of a listener, we'll also be opening early-bird registration then.

Website reorganisation!

We're making room for next year's conference. The previous years have now been archived at 2018 and 2019, and the HTML versions of the proceedings are at 2018 and 2019.

Conference proceedings now live!

Available as both HTML and PDF.
